Game Summary:
Discover the beauty of the sea and take part in various activities such as swimming, exploring marine life or cataloguing tropical fish with this new Touch! Generations title. The beauty of Endless Ocean is that you can do as much or as little as you like. The relaxed and calm atmosphere of the game gives you the freedom to explore special locations such as shipwrecks and underwater ruins, discover and interact with sea-life, complete fish logs or simply relax in the soothing environment. The game begins with you onboard a diving boat, with a crewmember that provides advice and tips on finding the best locations for fish and helps you advance the storyline. Assume the role of the diver, opting to go into the water to explore sea-life at your own pace utilizing tools such as a camera or fish bait. In the cabin on the boat, you can access the fish log to check out the fish that have been spotted, as well as carry out missions like photographing marine life. These missions unlock content, such as new items to use underwater, or different diving gear that can be used to customize your diver. Navigate through the depths using the Wii remote and guide your character using the pointer's cursor, visible as a bright blue dot. Interact with fish or plants and discover new species while building up your fish log. Befriend companions like a dolphin which will become your partner and with whom you can train and swim with. The Wii's unique Wi-Fi Connection Service allows players link up with your friends. By exchanging friend codes, two players may dive and explore the ocean together.
Looking to kick back and relax? Endless Ocean features several soothing modes. On the deck of the boat is a deckchair that allows you to sit and watch the sea. Alternatively in the aquarium section of the game, you can select fish they have seen and add them in an aquarium for a closer inspection. The relaxed setting is further heightened with a
Game Review:

Sit back – Relax – Dive!

Endless Ocean places the player in the role of a scuba diver exploring the fictional Manaurai Sea in search of sea life and sunken treasure. Here, they will encounter a number of marine species ranging from smaller fish and penguins to massive whale sharks, manta rays and humpback whales. The range of marine wildlife in the game is extensive and includes many common and rare species. The player will also encounter dolphins that can be trained to perform certain tricks and become companions on dives. Species such as sharks are also present; however, they pose no threat to the player.

We recommend Endless Ocean to players ages 6 years and up.

When you start up the game for the first time you’re given the opportunity to customize your diver, but of course you’re able to change him/her at will throughout the game when you’re given new suits, hairstyles and accessories. After you’ve made you’re diver, you’re thrown into the ocean and given a tutorial. In Endless Ocean, you’re only going to be using the Wii Remote, so put that nunchuck away! The controls are incredibly simple, which makes it an easy game to pick up and play. You swim by holding down the B button and you can control your diver’s direction by pointing the Wii remote in said direction. That’s pretty much the gist of it!

There’s a bit of a story to the game and it has to do with finding a mythical whale known as “The White Mother.” I’ll be the first to say that the story wasn’t the games strong suit, but I was engrossed nonetheless. The game really shines when you’re underwater, because it’s so pretty to look at! There are so many things to do and discover that you can unknowingly spend 3 -4 hours with the game, and not even realize. What really adds to the games atmosphere is the soundtrack, which is sung by a female talent called Hayley Westenra. But, if you’re not up for listening to what the game has to offer, you’re given the option to upload Mp3’s to your SD Card and listen to them in the game.
Other than the main story, you’re given a variety of tasks to perform in order to gain your reputation as a diver. Such tasks include escorting people on personal dives, taking photos, working at an aquarium and my personal favorite, training wild dolphins to do tricks and to accompany you on dives. In addition, the game also makes use of Nintendo’s Wi-Fi Connection, so you’ll be able to go diving with a friend! There’s also a fair bit of learning going on as you play through this game and start discovering the different species, and believe me there are tons! It’s a fun way to get kids excited about marine life and science in general.

There are a few gripes to be had, though, most of which lie with the camera. You have no control over the camera and that’s not really a problem, until you try and lock on to a mischievous dolphin or penguin. The way that certain animals move causes the camera go crazy, but it doesn’t happen enough to hinder the game play. Secondly, as gorgeous as the game looks underwater, the same can’t be said for the above water scenarios. Luckily, you’re not required to spend very much time above the water to really care. Finally, other than the Wi-Fi mode, the game is a single player endeavor. Players got to be able to read and follow directions fairly well, I therefore recommend the game for players 10 years and up. Though, younger kids might enjoy just swimming around and enjoying the scenery.

Endless Ocean has a certain charm to it; a charm that kept me coming back for hours, several times a day. Albeit, it may not be a must have game for everyone, but it’s definitely a must play game. It’s is currently available in Japan (Forever Blue) and in Europe, and is set for a United States release on January 24th 2008. Despite its minor flaws, the game is highly addicting and its simple and imaginative concept was brilliantly executed.

A great game for the entire family!

Maybe...., 2008-09-14

I'm thinking that rating this game is pretty subjective because it's so different from other games. It's pretty low key and relaxing. It might be educational but wasn't stimulating to me. However, maybe you don't want to be all the time. I would rate the graphics as fair to good because the colors are not so intense as in other games. I wouldn't rate it low just because it's not interesting to me. An 11 year old I know played it for over an hour and he thought that it was okay. He is quite the video game player and I don't have a chance against him. I should add that he wants to be a marine biologist which could account for his interest.

Beautiful Game! Lots Of Fun Exploring., 2008-09-10
Reviewer:        J. Rich
"Endless Ocean" was released in January of 2008. Unfortunately, this is a game I let "slip through the cracks" so to speak. For one thing, I didn't have a Wii then and when I finally got one there were several other titles I wanted instead of this one.

I'm glad I finally bought it because this is a beautiful game. Unlike many reviewers here who said they got bored that's because you're not accepting this game for what it is. I will tell you what it is not: it isn't a shoot 'em up, bang, bang game, it's not a game where you go around stabbing people, and it certainly isn't a game where you use your martial arts abilities to beat up someone. THIS GAME HAS ZERO VIOLENCE.

The basic idea of the game is to dive and explore underwater lands, but along the way you will be given clues as to where you need to go and what you need to do. There is actually ALOT to do on this game and you may get overwhelmed with things to do from time to time. Just do them one at a time and you'll be fine. Be sure to always check your mail, because this is apart of the game. The mail is designed to give you an idea of what you should be doing. One reviewer said this game lacks direction. I'm not sure if they were playing the same game I have been playing or not, because you have plenty of direction and ideas of what you need to be doing. What you do in this game is in black and white and if you can't comprehend something as simple as a piece of mail or your partner giving you clues, then best of luck to you. It couldn't be any easier.

This game is actually quite fun despite what some people have said. It's fun learning above the aquatic life in the sea and in the process discovering new places.

Throughout the game you will be traveling by boat to get to your desired destination. As I mentioned, you will be guided throughout as to where you need to go and what you need to do, so there's plenty to do.

This game is what it is and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out either. It's pretty straight-forward and self-explanatory most of the time. Enjoy "Endless Ocean" for what it is and not what you think it should've or could've been.

Highly recommended for the gamer who's looking for something different.
