Drake’s Fortune is a third person – Action / Platformer / Shooter hybrid game. The player assumes the role of Nathan Drake, who is on a quest to find the fabled treasure of Sir Francis Drake’s El Dorado.
About 75% of the game is spent shooting, which led us to agree with the 12 years and up rating suggested by the ESRB. The game is not overly difficult when it comes to solving the environment puzzles or when trying to clear the platform jumping sections. It is also unlikely that your family will get stuck, thanks to clearly marked pathways and onscreen help. We are almost tempted to call this game “casual”, however casual gamers will likely become a “casualty” when engaging in one of the numerous gunfights.
Uncharted makes good use of the PS3’s hardware, but unfortunately much of the lush environment is only “eye-candy”. This means that the player cannot interact with objects or use the environment to access alternative vantage points. The game developers utilized motion capture technology, which adds a nice touch of realism to the character animation and consequently to the gameplay experience.
Drake’s Fortune may not offer anything groundbreaking or new, but it is an extremely enjoyable 10-hour action packed and exclusive treasure hunt for those owning a PS3.
