Game Summary:
In The Simpsons Game, Homer, Marge, Bart, and Lisa use exciting, all-new powers to defend their home town from rising chaos. While the Simpsons have general abilities that can be used to fight opponents, interact with environments, and finish puzzles; each one has been imbued with special abilities that are unique to their personalities. These abilities grow and change as they progress through the story to battle tougher and tougher enemies in their quest to save Springfield! To help the Simpsons, gamers must journey through their home town (as well as vast worlds beyond!), vanquish an amazing array of villains, and fight their way through parodies of multiple popular games. 100% original script from the writers of the show with 4 distinct acts divided into 16 episodes and over 8,000 lines of dialogue. The open-world Springfield was designed as a central locale to jump into episodes with iconic locations to visit, characters to be visited and interact with, and hundreds of collectibles to be found. With parodies of the video game industry, pop culture and current events, the game has the same gut wrenching hilarity as the show. Co-op Play - With two members of The Simpsons family involved in each episode, all episodes can be played cooperatively in addition ESRB Rated T for Teen
Game Review:

EA managed to create a true Simpsons experience by paying tribute to famous Simpsons episodes, making fun of the videogame industry and Hollywood movie properties, as well as poking fun at their own brand and management. The game matches the TV show aesthetically and uses the original voice cast. In short: The Simpsons Game is a must have for fans of the TV Show.

The gameplay can be best categorized as Action-Platformer. Players get to play as all five characters (Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa even Maggie), while having the option to switch between two and sometimes all characters. Each character has a special ability which can/must be used to solve a variety of environment puzzles and to dispose of the occasional bad guy. The game is clearly designed to be played by a single player, however, a splitscreen cooperative mode with drop-in/drop-out option is available. This feature is best when in a battle.

Considering how close the videogame matches the TV show, we feel confident that if you let your kids watch the show, you can let them play the game. The ESRB gave the game a (predictable) “T” for Teen rating, which suggests 12 years and up.

The Simpsons Game may not offer anything outstanding, extraordinary or never seen before, but it successfully combines solid gameplay with outstanding Simpsons humor. This videogame rivals the TV Show for one of the best Simpsons “Episodes” we have ever seen.

I actually have not played this much yet. I got it for my kids for Christmas and they went through a stage of playing it a lot but haven't touched it for months. When I first tried I got frustrated as I couldn't get the characters to jump and do what they needed to do, but it was my first time gaming. Since then I've played a few other games and mastered some of the skills needed so I plan to go back and try this game again - I think the results will be quite different. I gave it a 5 based on my kids enjoyment of the game - my frustration was due to lack of skills with the controller - not the game itself.
