Game Summary:
Cosmic Family is an interactive kids game where you'll get to explore a rocket house with the Cosmic Family! They'll have a great time meeting Mom and Dad Cosmic, Big Sister, the two small children, the aloof dog, the lazy cat, and plenty of colorful monsters. Families can pilot a rocket into space & play 15 early-learning mini-games found throughout the five floors of the rocket-house. Use your magic wand (the Wii Remote) to reveal crazy animations, funny stories and playful mini games.
Game Review:

Cosmic Family is the first early-learning game on the Wii.
Targeted at player’s ages 4-8 years old, the game introduces young players to a variety of funny characters -the Cosmic Family, and their “Rocket House”. The game offers direct access to 20 mini-games, or alternatively players can choose “The Adventure”, where theyMore… explore all floors of the Cosmic’s blue rocket home, guided by Fernand – a rather silly, but age appropriate Elephant.
All mini-games encountered in Adventure mode are identical to those found in the mini-game selection menu. However, the Adventure mode features additional music pieces, video clips and slideshows, ranging from entertaining and funny to bizarre and boring. The mini-games offer a mix of puzzles, association of objects, sound memory, logic, shapes and reflex skills. The targeted age group will also improve fine motor skills by operating the Wii-Remote. Cosmic Family also includes a small coloring book.

We welcome the idea of using the Wii as edutainment platform. However, Cosmic Family ultimately fails do to poor sound editing. The background music makes almost impossible to understand the instructions given in Adventure Mode. To confirm, we tested Cosmic Family on two different TV’s sets, including a high quality Dolby Surround Speaker Set. Personally, I think that $49 for a collection of very short mini-games is a rather steep price, even if they are “educational”. But then again, “short and overpriced” is the sad reality for the majority of Wii mini-game collections. Considering that your kids may plow through the game in less then 4 hours and probably not going to play the game again; I suggest to rent Cosmic Family at Gamefly or wait a couple of month and pick up a used copy at Gamestop/EB Games or Amazon.

Great introduction to the Wii for preschoolers!, 2008-07-14

We were having a hard time finding a Wii game that our 3.5 yo DD could play or even relate to, but Cosmic Family has fulfilled that desire. She enjoys the fun stories and can easily play along with the "adventure" or the 20 mini-games and activities. There are 3 game levels that you can choose, perfect as they progress in skills. There are educational themes like shape &/or color matching and sorting, puzzles, associations, sound memory and painting/drawing. She learned to use the Wii remote easily with this game. Oh, and the elephant is always there to click on for help, our DD loves him! Some of the mini-games also have glasses you can click for help if you get stuck, kind of like a hint. Our DD does occasionally need help w/ the more advanced concepts, but we all play it together anyway. This is a great game for younger children to feel included in Wii fun, and can even be fun for a little mindless adult entertainment! :-) We definitely recommend it!

Let's be honest, this game isn't for you. It's for your young kids. My 4 year old loves it. My 6 year old loved it for a couple of months and hasn't played it since. It's great to introduce video games to young kids.
