Rescue Pets are small cuddly plush toys that come with access codes for the online site My-e-Pets.com
Upon first visit, new “pet” owners must go thru an adoption process, which includes entering the access code, giving the pet a name and providing a parent e-mail address. After completion the virtual counterpart of the toy pet will greet your children. Kids can now visit the MyePets.com Flea Market to “purchase” anything necessary for their private virtual online home. Or visit several locations including the MyePets Vet (to maintain health), MyePets Spa (to chill and relax) and the MyePets Arcade (for games and to earn virtual money). MyePets offers optional chatting and simple-phrased text messaging for friends who would like to communicate with each other. The site also offers a “Post office”, where kids can send E-Greeting cards to family and friends.
The retail box recommends Rescue Pets for children 4 years and up. We certainly agree as far as the plush toy goes, however the online site is best played by kid’s ages 7 years and older. Younger players may require parental assistance, especially when purchasing accessories at the Flea Market or when using the chat interface.
MGA Entertainment essentially created a clone of the well-established Webkinz toy and website by Ganz. Big thumbs down for originality…Cloning aside, “MyePets” is a good site for “online world” newbie’s. However the real fun in this $10 toy is the plush pet rather then the online world.
