Battle against massive tank battalions, speedy I.N.K.T. racers and elite Inky soldiers on your quest to free the citizens of Chroma City. Avoid hot plates, electric shocks and inky turrets to create your own path to the impenetrable I.N.K.T. Fortress. Just remember that the struggle to reclaim Chroma City is to be fought on your terms. Remix the city in your own image using custom paints, patterns and soundtracks. Super-size your blob to attack larger and stronger enemies. Join the Color Revolutionaries to refine your skills while making a mess. The race to rescue Chroma City has just begun, and only de Blob can save the world from a black-and-white future.

Gameplay: de Blob's Primary Goal
de Blob is a 3D platformer where players use the Wii Remote/Nunchuck combo to maneuver their hero, de Blob. Equal parts amorphous blob of paint, struggling artist, revolutionary and juvenile delinquent, de Blob's goal is to replace the drab, lifeless gray coloring that the I.N.K.T. Corporation has imposed on Chroma City and its inhabitants, the Raydians, with a range of vibrant life-giving colors, all the while avoiding and battling the gray-clad forces of the Inkies.

Players must acquire paint and hurl de Blob at the buildings, walls, statues, roads and skies above Chroma City. As de Blob bounces around, adding color wherever he lands, his supply of paint is depleted and he begins to dry out. As this happens players must collect more paint and rehydrate in pools and in front of hydrants scattered across the city. As the game starts access is limited to the colors red, blue and yellow, but these can be blended to create a number of other colors. Being able to create and apply these colors becomes important as Chroma City and its inhabitants come to life, and de Blob makes contact with a range of other characters known as the 'Color Revolutionaries' and receives an increasing amount of missions that charge him with splattering color all over town. Success at these mission gains the player point which drives the game forward, eventually leading to a direct assault on Comrade Black's I.N.K.T. fortress guarded by elite Inky soldiers and massive ink turrets.

Key Game Features:

  • de Blob - Flip, bounce and paint your way past the all-powerful I.N.K.T. Corporation to launch a revolution and save Chroma City from a future without vibrant color.
  • Long Live Color! - Join the Color Revolutionaries in the resistance against the evil Comrade Black and his diabolical array of hot plates, electric shocks, and ink turrets.
  • Free the Citizens - Free your friends from a black and white world by dodging ink cannons, flattening I.N.K.T. tanks and outsmarting Inky soldiers.
  • Save your City - Remix Chroma City’s towering skyscrapers, expansive bridges and massive landmarks in your own style using custom paints, patterns and soundtracks.
  • Make a Mess - Super-size your blob as you splash, spray, and splatter everything you touch in sprint, race and combat challenges.
  • Multiplayer - Compete for control as ink levels rise and wind cannons fire in eight multiplayer-specific gameplay modes.
Plenty of Play Modes
de Blob features both a deep story-driven singleplayer mode where players get to dig into the Raydian's struggle against all-powerful I.N.K.T. Corporation, as well as a diverse range of multiplayer options. These multiplayer campaigns support up to four players, come with street and sewer maps and include four player split-screen functionality. Just a few of the multiplayer campaigns include:

Paint Match - Paint as many buildings as possible and steal points from opponents by re-painting the buildings that they've already covered.

Blob on the Run - A variation of 'Capture the Flag,' in this mode only one blob can paint and is pursued by opponents who attempt to slam him into submission and gain the ability to paint and accumulate points themselves.

Blob Race - In this mode buildings can only be painted once and are indicated by in-game arrow. With time limited it's a race not only to paint the town but also to keep opponents from doing the same.

de BLOB is de BOMB, 2009-01-01
Reviewer:        J. Mccourt
I read the game description (thinking either that it was a little without depth or was intended for smaller children) and bought it anyway before renting it first because of the reviews it had gotten - always a scary thing to do. But I am so pleased with this game that it has quickly moved up to my #1 favorite. Yes, I am 35 and I still play video games. In story mode, it takes you city through city, and you rescue graylings by tagging or coloring all the buildings in a block. Some are pretty tricky, making it a good puzzle game for adults. The controls, although awkward at first, quickly became seemlessly natural. And the music is so ambient that POOF - 45 minutes go by and you wonder how that could be possible. I also like how it unlocks new background music as you complete levels and you can choose which you want to listen to. If you need a good game to detach with after a long, frustrating day at the office, this one is pretty good for that. Add a splash of color, free some graylings... All in all, a good day, no matter how crappy your real day was.

Sore arm..., 2009-01-01

Fun, Fun, Fun... I am addicted, what more can I say, my sore arm tells the whole story. I know some find this game repetative and it can be, but I love the simple story line, and small challenges are really not that that hard to do, and you don't have to do them all to move on in the story. It does take some hand eye cordination, of which I'm still learning because we just got the Wii and all I've ever played is the PS3. I think anyone who wants mindless fun would like this game, after playing Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia on the PS3, this is a great break, I just wish my arm would agree.

Use plenty of white-out!, 2008-12-31

I really loved the concept of this game. Reading reviews, I thought it'd be the perfect game for my 8-year-old daughter.

Unfortunately, the game is completely unplayable by her; it's way too hard and she gets easily frustrated. In fact, the game is way too hard for me too!

The controls of this game are poorly implemented. We spend a lot of time missing jumps and having to climb back to where we were when we started, and all the while the clock is tick-tick-ticking down. Your character, Blob, jumps when you flick the Wii remote. Sometimes those flicks don't register completely, if at all. At other times, Blob makes the jump, but gets stuck on some little edge of a building or a cargo container, and you waste time trying to get him to unstick from the side of the wall and back to solid ground where you can retry the jump yet again.

The nunchuck stick is used to steer Blob, and it's super sensitive. It's very easy to do circles around enemies, roll off of narrow walkways, etc, which again wastes time and causes you to have to reattempt challenges. There's a brake of sorts to stop Blob's zippy movements, but it would have been so much easier to just give the character better control.

Blob moves through his world on a storyline, completing challenges to advance in the war against the Inkt Corporation. Sadly, it's not possible to save the game's progress until you've completed a whole chapter of that story, which can run from 40 minutes to well over an hour. If you need to quit (or get so frustrated you have to walk away), when you start the game again, you'll have to re-complete the challenges you've already finished to move ahead. Think of it as being required to read a book a chapter at a time, and if you get called to dinner on page 19, you're required to read the first 19 pages over again just to be allowed to read page 20.

Worse, the toughest challenges are on page 20. If you can't complete the tough challenge, you can't save your progress.

I really wanted to like this game. I even tried to play it in spite of the difficulties, but ultimately it proved to be too difficult. I'm not a professional game-player (is there such a thing?) but I've been able to work my way through every level (except two purple coin levels) of another excellent platformer game, Super Mario Galaxy. With sticktoitiveness like that, this game shouldn't be that hard for me. But it is.

Steer clear.

De Blob is Way Fun!, 2008-12-28
Reviewer:        J. Everett
I got de Blob as a gift. I was honestly skeptical about the game before playing it, however, I changed my mind after the first five minutes of playing. I played for 4 1/2 hours straight after my son went to bed the night I began playing. I am addicted to say the least. The story is cute; paint the city with color after the Ink sucked it all away. The challenges throughout the levels are fun and entertaining. You can even replay the levels to beat your score and attain new goals. The levels have mini levels/games you unlock while playing the main level. Even having fun and bouncing off the city buildings just for the sake of acting crazy has helped me find items in the game. My husband and friends enjoy the game too. I definitely recommend this game.
