Killer Flagship Content ebookPreviously I wrote a review of Chris Garrett’s Killer Flagship Content ebook here on the KidConfidence blog.  In this excellent ebook, Chris lays out an approach for creating content that has real value to your niche or community.

I find myself going back to this ebook over and over again for tips and ideas. I created a mind map of this ebook and posted it on another blog that I write for, and I wanted to share the mind map here too.

The blog post is titled: Mind Map - How To Create Killer Flagship Content For Your Blog, and is available in PDF or as a Mindjet MindManager .mmap file.

Enjoy!

Killer Flagship Content eBook Picture I’ve been doing some research on blogs and building communities, with the goal of making the KidConfidence blog stand out as great resource for parents. Recently, I came across a very interesting eBook by Chris Garrett - Killer Flagship Content. In this eBook (which is available as a PDF file if you subscribe to Chris’ RSS feed or e-mail newsletter) he lays out an approach for creating content that has real value to your niche or community.

He defines Flagship Content as something that will be the “go-to” resource for your niche. This got me started on thinking of ideas for KidConfidence.

Our goal at KidConfidence is to be the “go-to” resource for parents who want to learn how video games can be used as a learning tool, and to build confidence in their children. So what kind of resources are parents really in need of right now? I have several ideas for creating a KidConfidence eBook, and Killer Flagship Content helped me generate ideas for several more. Here are a few of the ideas I came up with:

  • Parents: Use Video Games as Learning Tools
  • Where to get started with video games for your kids: which games are good?
  • Video Games and their effects on children, and FAQ
  • Five Video Games that are good for your Children and help them build self-esteem and confidence in their abilities

I’d love to hear what you would like to see, so please leave suggestions in the comments or contact us directly to tell us what you think!

Anyway, back to the review. In this well-written book, Chris covers everything from “Why Create Flagship Content” to the “10 Instant Flagship Content Ideas,” to “How to Promote” your new content. There are no cheap tricks here, only guidelines on creating quality content that your readers want and need. I liked it so much that I created a mind map of the book, and once Chris gives me the go-ahead I’ll post that here in case you are interested.

This eBook is highly recommended. I subscribed to Chris’ newsletter, and will definitely be downloading his next eBook!

A good friend of mine and I were talking about the concept of mind maps, learning and decision making. We were thinking - wouldn’t it be great if kids were taught how to make better decisions when they are young, so that as they grow up they can avoid some of the logical fallacies and make good decisions in their lives?

Train Your Brain to Make Better Decisions

He made a mind map of some of the core decision making elements: Language and Thinking, the Psychology of Decision Making, and Systems for Clear Thinking. I really like what he put together, and re-created it in my mind mapping tool of choice, Mindjet MindManager.

One of the things we’re working on at KidConfidence is mapping some of these elements into a process for evaluating and designing computer games. What if some of the games your children played helped to teach good decision making? The mind map is available for download - you will need to download the free MindManager viewer on PC and Mac if you want to view it.

p.s. MindManager is an outstanding tool for organizing your thoughts, doing research, planning, and many other things. It works the way you think. In case you are curious, click this link to what is a MindManager map? Also the Wikipedia entry on mind mapping is quite interesting.
