PlayStation3 gets another sequel - but hey; it’s at least “exclusive”.

Sony’s latest game in the Ratchet & Clank franchise, will be developed by -you guessed it- Insomniac Games. Named Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time, the new game will hit stores in the fall.

The last Ratchet & Clank video game “Quest for Booty”, was originally released as a download-only title and then subsequently on Blu-ray. The game continued from where Tools of Destruction left off.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction

The multi-million dollar selling Ratchet and Clank franchise has generated eight titles so far across the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PSP formats, with Insomniac being in charge of all of the home console entries.

Insomniac recently revealed that it has sold 32 million units worldwide, in combined sales of all its titles from the Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank and Resistance franchises. Not bad… :-)

The new game will feature the tradition action platformer gameplay of the series, along with… (more…)

Zeebo is a new video game console, intended for emerging markets worldwide, specifically BRIC – Brazil, Russia, India, and China, which represents 800 million people.

Zeebo is based on Qualcomm mobile technology, from the graphics chipset to the 3G wireless network, and has positioned itself as a piracy-free alternative to the larger, more expensive consoles. In Brazil, for instance, where the console is launching first, a PS3 costs the equivalent of US$1,100 new, and the Wii costs US$1,000, because neither console has officially launched there — the only alternative for those consoles is piracy.

Zeebo Video Game Console and Controller

Zeebo Inc. founder Reynaldo Norman stepped up to the plate to demonstrate the console live from the conference room. He was using a Brazilian launch unit with a U.S. SIM card, and it worked quite well. The console sports a game-by-game single screen UI with games rotating on a wheel in 3D space. In the top left corner, you see signal strength, and in the top right your number of Z-credits, similar to Xbox Live points.

It took about 30 seconds to connect to the shop, but Norman indicated this was not the norm, and depended on signal strength. From there, browsing was actually quite brisk, as Norman flicked through genre categories (though only Quake was actually displayed). He downloaded Quake live, and it took under 20 seconds for the full game to be downloaded and ready to play. As with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the Zeebo allows players to purchase additional credits via the UI. (more…)

Wii Play, a collection of nine mini-games, has now sold more than 10 million units in the United States alone since its debut in February 2007, according to figures released today by the independent NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. Wii Play, now the top-selling software on all consoles and portable systems in the United States, comes packaged with a Wii Remote controller.

Wii Play with Wii Remote

Wii Play mini-games are fun and they get people playing together,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Even if you believe people are buying Wii Play solely for the controller, that indicates that there are now more than (more…)
