Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced that it will publish Emergency Heroes exclusively on the Wii™ home video game system from Nintendo.

Developed by Ubisoft Reflections and Ubisoft Barcelona, Emergency Heroes is an open world rescue driving game. Young rescuers can jump into 16 different variations of next-generation rescue vehicles as a police officer, firefighter or EMT and navigate through the sprawling streets of San Alto, keeping citizens safe along the way. Emergency Heroes will be available in North America in May 2008.

Electronic Arts Inc. announced today that Madden NFL 09 will be available in retail stores in North America on August 12, including a special collector’s edition in celebration of the 20th anniversary of one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time. A pair of new studies tend to dispel the notion that violent video games spark violent behavior.

GameCritics reports that the March issue of Criminal Justice and Behavior cites research from Texas A&M and the University of Wisconsin:

One study found that students who played shooter Medal of Honor: Allied Assault were no more aggressive afterward than another group which played the non-violent Myst III. From the research:

Although males appeared to prefer to play violent video games relative to females, there was no evidence from this study to suggest that people who prefer violent video games are more innately aggressive than those who do not…

The second project surveyed hundreds of students on issues such as domestic violence, past criminal behavior, aggression and gaming. The conclusion (more…)

Worms is a turn-based strategy game where teams of worms battle across bizarre randomly generated landscapes, or across finely crafted custom-designed levels.

Each team takes turns to pick off the opposing team using crazy weapons, tools and other utilities they have discovered or whatever foul strategies they can conjure.

Worms die when they lose all of their energy or plunge into the icy depths of the water surrounding the landscape. The winning team is the one that manages to survive the mayhem and have worms left standing when the dust settles.

Each worm has an arsenal of devastating weapons at their disposal, some of which have a limited supply so strategy must be used to achieve maximum carnage. (more…)

EA confirms Sims3 for 2009.

The Sims is a strategic life-simulation computer game created by game designer Will Wright, published by Maxis, and distributed by Electronic Arts. It is a simulation of the daily activities of one or more virtual persons (”Sims”) in a suburban household.

The Sims was first released on February 4, 2000. By March 22, 2002, The Sims had sold more than 6.3 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling PC game in history. Since its initial release, seven expansion packs and a sequel, The Sims 2 (with its own expansion packs), have been released. The Sims has won numerous awards, including GameSpot’s “Game of the Year Award” for 2000.
