Go, Diego, Go! Safari Rescue is the first Nintendo Wii video game designed for the “Early Gamer” and “Pre-school” audience.
“Diego” (Dora the Explorer’s older cousin) and his Baby Jaguar have journeyed to Africa to visit fellow animal rescuer Juma. Upon arrival Diego is informed that all Elephants have been enchanted and turned into rocks by an unfriendly Mosquito who landed on a magic wand. The only way to reverse the spell is to recover a powerful magic drum.
By using the Wii remote held sideways, players will control Diego as he travels across 6 different African environments such as Mountains, Plains, Riverbanks and the Savannah. On route, he will encounter native animals that need help in various mini-quests.
The game does not require the Nunchuck attachment and only uses one contextual action button in addition to the Wii-Remotes motion sensing capabilities. All Go, Diego, Go! Safari Rescue levels are linear and easy to navigate, searchable objects and action objects are clearly marked.
Similar to the TV show, Diego encourages the player to participate physically and verbally. Without a doubt, the Wii remote is a perfect fit! Unlike so many other poorly designed Wii kids games like Barbie as The Island Princess, Tamagotchi or the Alvin and the Chipmunk disaster; we are extremely happy to report that the controls in Safari Rescue are responsive, fun and most of all very forgiving – an important aspect considering the young target audience. A “Safari Guide Helper Option” is also available, allowing a parent or older sibling to use a second Wii Remote and help out by performing the same actions required on his or her controller. Examples of motions found in the game include, tilting, shaking, drumming and flapping the Wii Remote.
Much has been said and written about the educational benefits, overall positive attitude and impact of Diego and Dora TV shows. Now combine these elements with physical activity, fine motor skills and advancements in hand-eye coordination gained by playing the Wii and you got yourself a winner. We recommend Go! Diego Go! Safari Rescue for players ages 3 to 6 years old.

Thanks for the review! We just bought this for our 3 and 5 year old, but weren’t sure if we should keep it. From your review we definitely will.
