We are only one year into the current generation of video game consoles, however the ESRB ratings data already reveals some interesting tendencies.

Xbox360 Myth:
Microsoft Xbox 360 is geared toward Teens and Adults.
Fact: Not true. Currently over 54% of all Xbox360 games are rated E or E10+. Proving that Microsoft is actively pursuing the casual and family gamer.
Wii Myth:
Nintendo focuses on non-traditional gamers.
Fact: True. Over 82% of all Wii games are rated E or E10+ and therefore appeal to the general audience.
PS3 Myth:
Sony’s PlayStation 3 lacks family friendly games and games in general.
Fact: True. 21.02% of all PS3 games are rated M for Mature. The ESRB Database has only 176 PS3 games. Which means a single game accounts for six tenths of a percentage point in the PS3 graphic below.
