THQ’s MX Vs. ATV video game series is known for intense motocross racing. The latest iteration of the game, “MX vs. ATV Untamed” includes new race disciplines and vehicles such as monster trucks, trophy trucks, buggies and golf carts! Unfortunately, the new vehicles are the only true highlight of an otherwise average racing game.
Owner of previous motocross games developed by Rainbow Studios will find “Untamed” to be very familiar to its predecessors. The controls remain unchanged, which means that players can pre-load their suspension and use the clutch to accelerate quickly or tighten corners. The environments are bland and we would have definitely liked to see some more mud flying around. The vehicles look decent but lack the little bit of extra polish to make them standout from other and previous MX games.
Luckily, MX vs. ATV delivers where it matters most – and that is head to head racing. The player can choose between multiple disciplines, either online or offline, including some surprisingly fun minigames.
MX vs. ATV Untamed may not win the racing game of the year 2008, however if you have kids ages 7 years and older, you may want to consider renting the game for a couple days.
