Trauma Center: New Blood is a Nintendo Wii exclusive surgery and trauma center simulation video game. The series moved from the DS to the Wii and was a Wii launch title in North America and Japan. Trauma Center: Second Opinion successfully introduced players to the endless possibilities of motion sensitive and motion-controlled gameplay.
Trauma Center: New Blood is a sequel to Trauma Center: Second Opinion. The anime style presentation and gameplay received upgrades but the core gameplay remains essentially unchanged. Families new to the series can pick up “New Blood” and start playing without ever having played or even seen the original.
The gameplay requires the player to operate on a (virtual) patient. The Nunchuck is used to select from a number of instruments and surgical tools, while the Wii –Remote is used to manipulate and operate. The game is presented in form of a continuous story, divided in several chapters, each with new and unique operations and tutorials. Procedures must be memorized and errors must be kept to a minimum. All operations must be accomplished within a time limit. Doesn’t sound easy? It isn’t. Trauma Center: New Blood is one of the most difficult Wii Games to date. We therefore recommend the game for player’s ages 12 years and up. Parents do not need to worry about photo-realistic blood, gore or organs. As mentioned above, the games graphics are anime-inspired. Watch our video review or click the screenshot samples to see if the game is appropriate for your children.
The Multiplayer Co-op mode is without a doubt the best new addition to the series. The KidConfidence medical team, comprised of Dr. Cola and Dr. Thomas, found a successful operation to be one of the most satisfying multiplayer experiences we had in years. Shooting Halo’s fierce Aliens with 16 others just can’t compare to saving lives together.
If your family likes Hospital TV Shows (House, Grace Anatomy, Private Practice, ER etc) or you are just looking for a new challenge – and we mean a real challenge – then Trauma Center: New Blood is a great game to own.
