This edutainment game includes a series of minigames focusing on word recognition, spelling challenges, and vocabulary definition. The game contains 16,800 words from the Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary. My Word Coach was inspired by ongoing vocabulary acquisition research by Thomas Cobb, University Professor in Applied Linguistics at the University of Quebec.
My Word Coach assesses, monitors, and rewards the players “Expression Potential”, a score that represents the ability to command and use the English language. The higher the number (out of a possible 100%), the better you are able to express yourself. Essentially, the game gives repeated exposure to words in context. Various mini-games provide the opportunity for the player to explore and interact with new words, without making the learning process boring.
My Word Coach is definitely a big step forward for the edutainment game genre, which means – this game is actually fun to play.
