Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure is an outstanding puzzle-adventure game for the Nintendo Wii.
The story revolves around (wanna-be) pirate Zack and his sidekick, a flying golden monkey, called Wiki. The games objective is rather simple – collect Treasure Chests, which contain precious golden skeletal parts of famous Captain Barbaros. Once all skeletal parts are found, this can easily take somewhere in the range of 30 hours, the old pirate captain will grant Zack a wish. No, I am not going to spoil it here.
As with all good pirate treasures, there needs to be a puzzle solved in order to get to it. In the case of Zack and Wiki, these puzzles involve everything from environment traps, turning centipedes into saws, bats into umbrellas and opposing pirates into totem poles. This may sound strange and trust me it is. But this is all part of why Zack and Wiki is unlike any other game and ultimately so much fun.
The game is extremely simple to play, just point and click where you want to go and click on objects to interact. Certain objects will also require the player to balance, twist, shake, pull or push the Wii Remote. The cartoon pirate theme, graphical presentation and hilarious gameplay make Zack and Wiki very appealing to young children. However, unless you got a little super genius at home (yes, I am sure you all have geniuses), we recommend the game for players 12 years and up. Age inappropriate content is not an issue – only difficulty. Families with young kids can play the game in cooperative mode with up to three Wii Remotes.
Words do little justice - Zack and Wiki must be experienced. If you own a Wii go buy it for yourself, your kids, your husband or wife – any excuse will do, just get it. This is truly a great game or as GameDaily put it: “A sparkling gem amongst scores of crappy Wii games”.
