Nintendo invited us for some hands-on time with the much anticipated action brawler “Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Watch the interview, including actual gameplay footage, by clicking on the screenshot below.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii videogame console is a tournament fighting game featuring Nintendo’s most popular characters. Playable characters will include Samus Aran from the Metroid videogame series, Link from the Legend of Zelda, Pikachu from Pokemon and of course Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser and the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom gang. Super Smash Bros. Brawl will also feature Solid Snake, the protagonist of Konami’s Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Acid videogame series and Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog.

The gameplay consists primarily of hitting an opponent in order to build up his/her damage meter. The more damage a character takes, the farther the opponent flies each time he/she gets hit. The goal of the game is to “fly” the opponents of the screen. Some game-modes will also include special points that can be earned by KO’ing an opponent. 4 Players will be able to play simultaneously and the game will definitely be online enabled, using the Wii’s WiFi connection.

Each player will be able to choose what control configuration they would like to use. Super Smash Bros. Brawl can be played by turning the Wii Remote sideways, by using the Wii Remote and the Nunchuck attachment, by using the Classic Controller or by connecting an old Gamecube controller to the Wii.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is rated “T” for Teen by the ESRB. However, based on our hands-on time we feel that the game may be suitable for children as young as 10 years of age. The games violence is cartoonish and does not feature blood, gore or other disturbing images or actions.

Stay tuned for our upcoming video review. The game is scheduled for release on February 10, 2008.

After it been out in six months in Japan I finally get SSBB.
As a 14 year old I love games and this is in my opinion the best Wii game period.
Some parents will only buy their kids games if they are educational and that is ridiculous. School is enouhgh learning and shouldn’t be drugged to the kid through entertainment. No educational game has such a great multiplayer as Halo 3 Call of Duty 4 Timesplitters or SSBB.
