Lair is a “T” for Teen rated action video game developed by Factor 5 exclusively for the PlayStation 3. The player assumes the role of Rohn, a warrior who rides a voracious dragon. Lair consists of aerial and ground combat missions. The player must defend areas, destroy objects and eliminate enemies and creatures.
The game received a lot of positive media attention in the early stages of development for its graphics (HD1080p) and sound (7.1). However, the finished game was unable to impress the gaming and mainstream media. The Sixaxis motion sensing controls have repeatedly been described as awkward and unresponsive. IGN calls Lair “A pain, repetitive and not very fun”. PlayStation Magazine gives Lair a 5 out of 10, saying “Lair is a One Trick Dragon”. Gamespot calls the action “shallow and unrewarding”. I suggest to Rent (Gamefly.com) Lair before buying.
PSP owners will enjoy Lair’s “Remote Play” - a feature that lets gamers share content between their PlayStation 3 and PSP, locally using the devices’ in-built wireless features or remotely via an access point. Numerous videos emerged over the weekend on YouTube, which set PS3 forums alight. The Remote Play functionality was previously restricted to accessing media content only such as music and videos from the PS3’s hard drive. Many remained skeptical, however Kotaku managing editor Brian Crecente posted his own video of Lair running on Sony’s handheld.
