Rats in the kitchen are usually not desirable – unless of course the rat’s name is Remy, lives in Paris, France and knows how to cook…
Ratatouille for the Leapster is based on the popular Disney/Pixar Movie. Rather then following the movie-plot, this edutainment game offers 5 different Ratatouille themed mini games. The game is suited for players ages 4 to 7 years. Kids will encounter Remy the main movie character, Emile –Remy’s food-loving brother and culinary hero, Auguste Gusteau.
Aside from letter recognition and spelling exercises found in many Leapster games, Ratatouille also teaches food groups and problem solving, while exposing the player to 1 out of 10 French words here and there.
After successful completion of each mini game, players will earn a recipe. Unlocked recipes can be accessed and prepared thru the “Cook with Remy” activity. Players select the ingredients and prepare the food by using the stylus. If your kids have fun with virtual cooking we highly recommend Cooking Mama for the Nintendo Wii and the DS.
Ratatouille features a memory game, where players must find matching shapes and objects. Hint: Pay attention to where Remy moves during the game. The correct matching shape is in the same row as Remy.
The game does not utilize any graphical assets from the movie. However the simple, but recognizable artwork, coupled with voice-overs close to those found in the movie make for a convincing Ratatouille experience.
Ratatouille is a movie –themed edutainment game. The game-play is solid but nothing extraordinary. How much your child enjoys the game will depend how much they like the movie characters.
