Rhythm and music games prove to have more cognitive value for children compared to action games. No surprise here.
But will your kids learn to play a real guitar by playing the video game Guitar Hero? Probably not!

The 3rd installment of Guitar Hero is on it’s way to retail stores. However, another music game called “Rock Band”, developed by Harmonix and published by Electronic Arts (EA) is likely going to steal the show.

Rock Band will allow gamers to perform music from the world’s biggest rock artists with their friends as a virtual band. The game uses drum, bass/lead guitar and microphone peripherals. The band members (players) can be in the same room or connect online from around the world.

To put the “icing on the cake”: Game developer Harmonix says that if players can master the drum peripheral ($79) on hard difficulty, they will be able to play the instrument in reality.

Rock Band will hit retail stores in time for the holiday shopping season.

We can’t wait to get our hands on the final product!

The game was enjoyable, but is definitely no reason to buy a PS3 – regardless how big the upcoming price-cut will be. […]

[…] All said and done, Guitar Hero 3 – Legends of Rock is a lot of fun to play, but offers little new if your family already owns a prior version of the game. Take a look at the track list and decide if it’s worth $90 (includes Guitar) or if you should invest in EA’s RockBand. […]
