Nintendo’s Motion Sensing Wii is without a doubt one of the hottest gaming gadgets of the third generation consoles. Game developers are shifting their million dollar budgets and resources to feed the need for more and better Wii games.

But what if you want to make your own Wii games?

Bad news first: To create full feature games that can be burned on disc you will need the official Nintendo Wii Developer Kit. Good luck getting one of those…

Here’s the good news: The Wii comes with a downloadable Internet browser, and it lets you navigate with the motion sensing Wii-remote. Our VP and co-founder Don Campbell made a little game for his girls after visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It’s a simple “experimental” game that he made as a learning exercise, but we thought we would try to get it running on the Wii. In no-time he re-scaled to fit the Wii Browser 800×600 minus an additional 80 pixels to compensate for the NavBar. The Wii browser navigation bar can be turned off under “Settings”, but not everyone will know how to do that so he adjusted the game to fit in 800×520 screen size. The Wii browser only supports Flash 7 – so that’s what the game is published in. The Wii browser lets you scroll, zoom and click with the Wii-mote, which means that you can control the otter in the game with the Wii-mote too!

We are planning on building Wii Flash games that will make use of more of the Wii’s uniuqe capabilities. Check out the video below to see Don’s game running on the Wii, or fire up your Wii and log-on to www.kidconfidence.com/wii to try it out for yourself!
If you have a cool kids-friendly Flash game contact us - we may feature you and your game on our site!
